Eco-Friendly Fabrication and Characterization of CuCr₂O₄/g-C₃N₄ Nanocomposite for Efficient Photocatalytic Removal of Methylene Blue

The present study reports the biogenic synthesis of CuCr۲O۴/g-C۳N۴ nanocomposite using cow urine as a natural stabilizing and reducing agent for the photocatalytic degradation of the methylene blue (MB) dye under visible light. To investigate the structural, optical, and morphological characteristics of the nanocomposite, the XRD, UV-DRS, FTIR, FESEM, EDX, and HRTEM techniques were used. The study focused on the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) when exposed to visible light, utilizing pure CuCr۲O۴, g-C۳N۴, and a nanocomposite made of CuCr۲O۴ and g-C۳N۴. The CuCr۲O۴/g-C۳N۴ nanocomposite exhibited a degradation of ۹۴.۱۸% of MB within ۹۰ min, which shows better photocatalytic activity than CuCr۲O۴ and g-C۳N۴. The improved performance can be credited to the collaborative effect of CuCr۲O۴ and g-C۳N۴, which enhances the separation of charge carriers and increases the number of accessible active sites. The study presents an effective and sustainable approach for dye degradation, aligning with the principles of green chemistry and environmental remediation.
