چکیده مقاله:

Embroidery backing paper waste (EBPW) from the textile industry was used to isolate cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) by sulfuric acid hydrolysis process with a production yield of ۵۱.۶%. The waste and the isolated nanocellulose were subjected to chemical analysis (cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, ash). Structural, morphological, and thermal characterization were estimated from FTIR, XRD, SEM and TGA. Peaks observed in FTIR frequencies ۳۳۳۶ cm-۱ and ۳۲۹۷ cm-۱ revealed the presence of cellulose. The SEM data demonstrates the production of spherical shaped CNCs with an average crystallite size of ۳۱.۱۲ nm. The highest percentage crystallinity index obtained for the isolated CNCs was ۸۸.۱۹%. TGA shows that the isolated CNCs were thermally stable and a linear region of weight loss was observed at ۳۲۰-۴۴۰°C. The result of this study proved that this underutilized waste has the potential to be utilized as a new source of cellulose raw material for the production of CNCs and simultaneously provide an alternative solution of EBPW recycling, thereby significantly reducing the volume of cumulative waste in the environment.
