چکیده مقاله:
In recent years, the use and development of artificial intelligence (AI) has taken the world by storm through the wider availability of generative AI such as ChatGPT, Google’s Bard and DALL-E. But AI is having, by far, the most significant revolutionary impacts already on scientific discoveries and technological innovations across various disciplines. This review examines the impacts and benefits of the integration of AI with nanotechnology, water and environmental sciences, with a focus on its present adoption, new and future developments. In addition, the review reveals that the integration of AI with nanotechnology, water and environmental sciences offers a vision for a future that is safer, cleaner, and more resilient, driven by a new scientific paradigm in which intelligent systems are created at the molecular level and implemented sustainably at the environmental scale. In particular, the review draws attention to the realisation that AI has evolved from a supporting analytical tool into a robust interdisciplinary ecosystem that can address some of the most challenging issues facing humanity, including access to clean water, environmental remediation, and climate resilience. Furthermore, the review highlights the need for sound ethical considerations in adopting AI integration in nanotechnology, water and environmental sciences. It also identifies areas where further research can improve and strengthen the integration.
