New Trends in TEFL: Integrating Artificial Intelligence, Translanguaging, and Gamification in English Language Teaching

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) has undergone remarkable transformation in recent years due to advances in digital technology, globalization, and changing learner needs. This article examines contemporary trends shaping TEFL in the ۲۰۲۰s, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI), translanguaging pedagogies, gamification, and digital multimodal learning. Recent studies indicate that AI-assisted learning environments, machine translation tools, and gamified applications are increasingly influencing language acquisition and learner autonomy. At the same time, educators are reconsidering traditional monolingual approaches and adopting more inclusive multilingual practices. This article critically reviews these developments, explores their pedagogical implications, and discusses challenges related to ethics, teacher identity, and educational equity.
