Paget’s disease of bone in a non-endemic region: A case report

Paget's disease of bone (PDB) is a skeletal disorder with increased focal bone resorption accompanied by abundant new bone formation. PDB occurs most frequently in the middle-aged, and men are more likely to be affected than women. PDB is asymptomatic in ۷۰ to ۹۰% of cases. However, in cases where it presents clinically, bone pain is the most common symptom, with pelvis, lumbar vertebrae, femur, thoracic vertebrae and skull being the commonest sites of involvement respectively. Serum alkaline phosphatase rises in about ۸۵-۹۰% of the patients and is also a good marker for assessing the disease status after treatment. In this report, we present an Iranian ۵۹-year-old man who had headache and chest pain and localized tenderness in both sites.
