Double-layer grid space structures are widely recognized for their efficiency in spanning large areas without intermediate supports. These structures comprise numerous members, making their optimal design a critical challenge in structural engineering. Developing and applying an efficient metaheuristic for the optimization of these structures remains a further challenge. This study introduces an enhanced variant of the Differentiated Creative Search (DCS) algorithm, which is utilized for the optimal design of large-scale double-layer grid space structures. To elevate the algorithm’s performance, two novel and effective mechanisms are integrated: the Structural Initialization Scheme (SIS), which significantly improves population diversity at the outset, and the Statistical Regeneration Mechanism (SRM), which reinforces global search capability and convergence stability. Comparative analyses demonstrate that the proposed Enhanced Differentiated Creative Search (EDCS) algorithm achieves a reduction in the standard deviation of optimal weights ranging from ۳۰% to ۵۵% compared to standard DCS. Moreover, the results indicate that EDCS consistently competes with state-of-the-art metaheuristic approaches in terms of solution quality and computational efficiency, offering a robust and scalable framework for optimizing complex double-layer grids.
