Relationship of Application of the Principles of Parents' Behavior Management with Cognitive approach by Parents and its Relationship with the Social Skills of their Children

Background and Aim: One of the factors affecting children's personal and social skills is their parents' behavior management style. Methods: In order to achieve the research goals, ۱۹۴ elementary school girls and boys from city of Tehran were selected through available sampling method. In order to evaluate social skills, from the parentsal form of the Gresham and Elliot Social Skills Scale (۱۹۹۰) was used, which has ۳۹ items in the area of social skills, ۱۷ items are in the context of their children's behavioral problems. Reliability of this scale using Cronbach's alpha test ۰.۹۴ has been reported. To find out about the performance of parents in managing their children's behavior, a researcher-made Parental Behavior Management Questionnaire with cognitive approach was answered by parents of the same students. This scale has five subscales and ۵۱ items with high validity coefficient and Cronbach's alpha of ۰.۸۸. For data analysis, Pearson correlation and regression analysis were used. Results: In this research, the relationship between behavior management methods with cognitive approach and social skills of children has been investigated. Conclusion: The results showed that there is a significant relationship between the application of the principles of parents' behavior management of children by the parents and their children's social skills. The findings showed that the application of the principles of behavior management with cognitive approach by parent is an appropriate predictor of children's social skills.
