Textile industries produce large amounts of wastewater containing synthetic dyes, which are difficult to remove using traditional treatment methods. The electro-Fenton (EF) process, as an advanced oxidation technique, has shown strong potential for degrading such pollutants. This paper presents a descriptive and analytical review of the two main types of EF processes: direct and indirect. It explains how each method works, the factors that affect their performance, and their recent applications in treating dye-containing wastewater. The study places greater emphasis on the indirect EF process, which has demonstrated better removal efficiency and lower energy consumption in many recent experiments. Several studies from the last few years are reviewed and compared in a summary table. The advantages and limitations of both methods are also discussed, particularly in relation to their practical application in real textile wastewater treatment. Overall, the results suggest that the indirect EF process, when operated under suitable conditions, can be an effective and sustainable solution for treating textile wastewater.
