Water concern is a serious problem in the world and wastewater treatment is a proper solution for that. Congo Red (CR) is an anionic azo dye that can cause serious problems. In this work, large scale chitosan and chitosan-AC (Ch-AC) hydrobeads were prepared and their performances were compared. FTIR test proved the accuracy of synthesis. After that, ۱۰۰ ml of CR with initial concentration of ۵۰ mg/L was used in a fixed bed column recirculation system (FBCR). After ۷h, the removal of CR for AC, chitosan and chitosan-AC were ۱۸.۸%, ۴۲.۷۶% and ۵۵.۰۴% respectively. In this way, adsorption capacities were obtained ۰.۹۴, ۲.۱۳۸ and ۲.۷۵۲ mg/g respectively. Using AC as the base did not change the performance of hydrobeads significantly. This was attributed to the fact that only a few external layers of hydrobeads participate in the adsorption of CR.
