چکیده مقاله:

Healthcare systems contribute ۴–۱۰% of national greenhouse gas emissions, with hospitals as major sources due to energy use, waste generation, procurement practices, and pharmaceuticals. Climate change increases health risks, including heat-related illness, vector-borne diseases, and respiratory conditions, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations. As the largest group of frontline professionals, nurses are well positioned to lead sustainability efforts. This article examines nursing-led strategies to reduce hospital carbon footprints through an integrated environmental health approach. Key interventions include reducing single-use plastics, improving energy efficiency, strengthening waste management, promoting sustainable procurement, and advancing planetary health education. Drawing on initiatives such as the NHS Net Zero strategy, the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, the Nurses Climate Challenge, and planetary health nursing frameworks, the article highlights evidence-based actions including quality improvement projects, leadership in green teams, and integration of sustainability into education and policy. Despite institutional and workload barriers, nursing-led carbon reduction improves patient outcomes, promotes health equity, and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs ۳, ۱۲, and ۱۳), advancing progress toward net-zero healthcare.
