چکیده مقاله:

Emergency department (ED) staff are frequently exposed to a wide range of occupational hazards, including physical injuries, biological risks, and high levels of psychological stress. These hazards not only threaten the well-being of healthcare workers but also indirectly impact patient safety and the quality of care. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) management systems, combined with targeted staff training, have been recognized as essential strategies to mitigate workplace risks in EDs. HSE frameworks provide structured policies, risk assessments, and safety protocols, while training programs enhance staff awareness, competency, and adherence to safety standards. This narrative review synthesizes current evidence from descriptive, observational, and systematic studies on the effectiveness of HSE management and training in reducing work-related injuries and medical errors among emergency staff. The review highlights common occupational risks, organizational and environmental factors contributing to these hazards, and best practices for implementing safety strategies. Findings suggest that integrating robust HSE management with continuous education significantly improves staff safety, fosters a culture of risk prevention, and supports higher-quality patient care. The review emphasizes the need for healthcare institutions to prioritize occupational safety in EDs through policy enforcement, regular training, and continuous monitoring.
