چکیده مقاله:
The tourism industry plays a significant role in economic development, especially in regions with rich cultural, historical, and natural attractions. However, the traditional linear economic model of "take-make-dispose" often results in resource depletion, environmental degradation, and social challenges. The circular economy (CE) approach, emphasizing resource efficiency, waste minimization, and value retention, offers a sustainable alternative for tourism development. By extending product lifecycles, encouraging reuse and recycling, and promoting innovative business models, the CE can strengthen the resilience and sustainability of tourism-related activities. The necessity of exploring CE in the tourism sector arises from multiple global and local imperatives. Firstly, increasing environmental pressures demand a shift towards sustainable practices. Secondly, local economies-particularly in rural and heritage-rich areas-depend heavily on tourism as a source of income and employment. A well-implemented CE strategy can simultaneously reduce environmental impacts and stimulate local economic growth by creating green jobs, supporting local supply chains, and fostering community-based initiatives. This study aims to assess the capacity of the circular economy in the tourism industry and analyze its impact on local employment and income. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical method, drawing on secondary data from global reports, academic literature, and case studies. The focus is on identifying CE practices applicable to tourism, such as eco-design in hospitality infrastructure, circular supply chains in food services, waste-to-resource initiatives in tourist destinations, and collaborative consumption models (e.g., shared mobility and accommodation). Findings indicate that implementing CE strategies in tourism can significantly enhance local employment opportunities, particularly in areas such as recycling and repair services, eco-friendly construction, renewable energy deployment, and the promotion of local crafts and agricultural products. Moreover, CE-driven tourism development can diversify income streams by reducing dependency on seasonal tourism and encouraging value-added services. For example, the integration of local artisans into souvenir production using recycled materials both preserves cultural heritage and reduces environmental impact. In conclusion, the circular economy presents a promising pathway for sustainable tourism that aligns environmental stewardship with socio-economic benefits. To maximize these outcomes, policymakers should integrate CE principles into tourism planning, provide incentives for green innovation, and enhance stakeholder collaboration. Local communities, as primary beneficiaries, should be actively involved in designing and implementing CE initiatives to ensure inclusivity, cultural relevance, and long-term sustainability. Future research should focus on developing quantitative models to measure the economic, environmental, and social impacts of CE adoption in tourism, enabling evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement.
