چکیده مقاله:
Scabies skin disease is one of the most severe parasitic skin diseases of dogs, which is caused by tiny parasites that live and feed on the skin and hair of dogs. This disease spreads easily among dogs and can also be transmitted to humans. Oxidative stress plays a role in the pathophysiology of several diseases. Antioxidants are compounds that prevent oxidation. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals that lead to chain reactions and may damage the cells of living organisms. Glutathione Peroxidase (GPx) is one of the main enzymatic defense systems of all aerobic cells that reduce their reactivity by directly destroying superoxide and hydrogen peroxide radicals. Considering the prevalence of mange disease in dogs and little research on the amount of antioxidants in this disease, the present study was conducted to determine the amount of glutathione peroxidase enzyme in the process of this disease. In this study, out of ۹۰ dog collars, including ۴۵ dog collars with scabies and ۴۵ healthy dog collars, blood samples were taken, then the activity of serum glutathione peroxidase enzymes was measured by spectrophotometric method. The results showed that the amount of glutathione peroxidase enzyme in sick dogs was decreased compared to healthy dogs and there was a significant difference (p<۰.۰۵).
