چکیده مقاله:
Urbanization, industrial decline, and environmental degradation have exposed the limitations of traditional landscape design, which often overlooks ecological integrity. This has led to the emergence of ecological landscape design as a holistic approach that integrates ecological processes, social needs, and cultural values to restore and enrich post-industrial and urban spaces. This study aims to define the core principles of ecological landscape design and examine their application in five prominent post-industrial parks: the High Line, Duisburg Nord, Shougang, Fresh Kills, and Gas Work. Employing a qualitative, document-based methodology, the research combines systematic literature review, project document analysis, and comparative evaluation. The findings indicate that effective developments consistently adhere to principles such as site-responsive design, integration of natural processes, enhancement of biodiversity, resilience, and fostering human-nature interaction. Application of these principles enables the transformation of former industrial sites into multifunctional, socially engaging, and ecologically sustainable spaces. Nevertheless, ecological monitoring, connectivity between ecosystems, and stakeholder participation emerged as critical gaps hindering full implementation of ecological design frameworks. The study demonstrates that ecological landscape design provides both a scientific and practical foundation for sustainable urban transformation. Addressing these gaps through interdisciplinary collaboration, adaptive management, and standardized evaluation tools can further strengthen its role in creating resilient, sustainable, and livable urban environments.
