چکیده مقاله:

Diabetes mellitus is a prevalent chronic condition that requires continuous self‑management to prevent complications and improve patient outcomes. Hospitalized patients in medical–surgical units often experience gaps in diabetes knowledge and self‑care practices due to time‑limited and unstructured education. This paper examines the impact of structured diabetes education programs on self‑management behaviors among medical–surgical patients. Structured education programs emphasize standardized content, individualized assessment, skill‑based training, and patient engagement, enabling individuals to actively participate in their care. The findings suggest that participation in structured education leads to significant improvements in diabetes‑related knowledge, self‑efficacy, medication adherence, blood glucose monitoring, nutritional management, and lifestyle modification. Additionally, such programs contribute to better glycemic control, reduced risk of diabetes‑related complications, and enhanced psychological well‑being. Integrating interdisciplinary collaboration and tailoring educational interventions to patients’ cognitive, emotional, and cultural needs further strengthens program effectiveness. The paper highlights the importance of embedding structured diabetes education into routine inpatient care and ensuring continuity through discharge planning and post‑hospital follow‑up. Overall, structured diabetes education programs represent an effective and sustainable approach to enhancing self‑management behaviors and improving clinical and behavioral outcomes among patients with diabetes in medical–surgical settings.
