A Review on Recent Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Psychology with a Vision on Medical Practice

Psychotherapy helps people with emotional problems feel in control, which helps them calm down and change their ideas and actions. To make these big changes happen, you need to improve your listening and observing skills, raise your awareness, pay more attention, and use interventions. Individual sessions are a must for traditional psychotherapy. As technology became more common in our lives, the concept that IT tools could replace human connection came to mind. Therapists use specific tools and methods during therapy that not only transform but also enhance a person's emotional and cognitive understanding. The idea of combining these two big fields, psychology's complexity and artificial intelligence's ability to change, has recently gained popularity. Some psychologists were reluctant to use expert systems in their daily work because they feared losing their careers or being replaced by machines. This meant that they didn't use their IT expertise as much as they could have. Technology cannot completely duplicate human behavior, and AI has considerable progress to make in this area; yet, researchers are diligently working to fulfill these expectations. In addition, the patient's resistance to technological encroachment must be rigorously scrutinized to achieve broad acceptance. This review focuses on improving self-awareness through computer-based psychotherapy tools that leverage machine intelligence.
