Integrated study of air pollutant emissions from different sources in Isfahan city

Air pollution is a major environmental problem in Isfahan city that has devastating effects on human health and the ecosystem and comes from various sources including the asphalt industry, motor vehicles, power plants, industry, and natural disasters such as forest fires and dust storms. The data used in the research were obtained through a combination of different methods and strategies. Reliable laboratory data, along with reports from the European Environmental Protection Agency, the US Environmental Protection Agency, and the Australian Environmental Protection Agency, and environmental agency standards were used to determine emission factors. Questionnaires were prepared and sent to commercial and industrial units to collect information on the production and emission of air pollutants. Finally, statistical analysis and grouping methods were used to analyze the data. Based on the average emission data of different sources, prioritization led to the identification of ۵ main sources of gaseous pollutants, including: Chemical, synthetic textile and pharmaceutical industries (۷.۳۶%), open-air garden waste burning (۷.۶۸%), brick kilns (۱۲.۴۳%), waste disposal centers (۱۵.۷۸%), human digestion (۴۵.۶۸%). ۳۰ other sources contribute less than ۳%. Based on the results, it is clear that CH۴ contributes only ۴۴% to the emissions of Isfahan city, followed by CO۲. (۲۳%), TSP (۱۳%), MVOCS (۹%), PM۱۰ (۲.۱۷%), NH۳ (۱.۹۶%), non-methane volatile organic compounds (۱.۸۹%), NOx (۱.۷۰%), PM۲.۵ (۱.۳۶%), SOx (۰.۸۹%), VOC (۰.۷۶%), PM (۰.۰۳%). The results of the paper provide information. The main sources of air pollutant emissions in Isfahan include chemical industries, open-air garden waste burning, brick kilns, waste centers, and human digestion. It provides average emission rate data from various sources and helps prioritize and target specific sectors for emission reduction. This study highlights the importance of considering both natural and anthropogenic sources of air pollution and the need to implement strategies to obtain accurate information on emissions. This research contributes to understanding the sources of air pollution in Isfahan city, which can help develop effective measures to reduce pollution and improve air quality.
