چکیده مقاله:

Stress among university students is a growing concern because it affects mental health, academic performance, and overall well-being. Stress can lead to both physiological and psychological changes, reducing cognitive function and emotional balance. Recent studies emphasize the role of the gut-brain axis in stress regulation, with probiotics emerging as a potential modulator. Probiotics are live microorganisms that provide health benefits when consumed in sufficient amounts, including supporting neurotransmitter activity, lowering inflammation, and improving mood. This study examined the impact of probiotic supplementation on student stress through a quasi-experimental design. One group received probiotics for eight weeks, while a control group received a placebo. Stress levels were measured using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) before and after intervention. Results showed a significant decrease in stress among the probiotic group compared to controls, supporting evidence that probiotics may serve as a safe, non-pharmacological strategy for stress management. The findings highlight the potential of dietary interventions to enhance student well-being and possibly academic outcomes. However, limitations such as small sample size and reliance on self-reported data must be considered. Future studies with larger populations are recommended. Overall, this research supports the role of gut microbiota modulation in reducing stress and suggests probiotics as an accessible approach for promoting mental health in university settings.
