An Overview of Agile Project Management in Construction Industry: Principles, Frameworks, and Applications

Agile project management (APM) has appeared to play a crucial role in the contemporary world, addressing the need for speed and agility in the world of business. The fact is the world has always relied on conventional project management processes such as the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) and Earned Value Management, but there is currently a realization about the need to evolve into more agile processes. The idea of APM, developed for the field of software development using Scrum and Lean, is based on the principles of quick feedback, improvements, and teamwork, making it significantly more relevant to the current world. The model is slowly taking its first steps in the construction industry, dealing with issues such as delays, cost overruns, and quality, by making the industry more agile and responsive to the situation. This paper attempts to define what agile is and about Agile Project Management, specifically in the construction field. Then, its principles, potentials, strategies, and advantages and disadvantages are analysed. Finally, the potential for construction projects to be made better by the adoption of Agile Project Management is assessed.
