New high-gain boosted DC-DC converter for renewable energy applications

Renewable energy sources such as solar cells, wind turbines and fuel cells require a step-up voltage due to their low output voltage and low power for connection to the DC grid or input of inverters. For this reason, DC-DC converters, which are an interface between low-voltage power sources and high-voltage consumers, are used to step up their voltage. Classic step-up DC-DC converters are not suitable for renewable energy applications due to their low voltage gain, so we need to develop step-up DC-DC converters with efficient structures and topologies and higher voltage gain. In this paper, a proposed non-isolated converter based on voltage boosting techniques including three-level boost converter, coupling inductor, diode and capacitor is presented. It has a high voltage gain so that it can create a half-gain in the duty cycle. It also has a voltage stress half that of a conventional boost converter. Then, calculations of the proposed converter are performed and simulation results are presented.
