This review article examines various optimization algorithms employed in the economic load dispatch (ELD) of hydropower plants, emphasizing the importance of efficient resource allocation for maximizing economic benefits while ensuring grid stability. As renewable energy sources gain prominence, the optimization of hydropower generation becomes critical to meet the rising demand for clean energy. We explore traditional approaches as well as advanced algorithms, including dynamic programming, genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization, and others, highlighting their advantages and limitations. Furthermore, we analyze the integration of these optimization techniques with dynamic programming methods to enhance decision-making processes in ELD. This comprehensive review aims to provide insights into current trends, challenges, and future directions in optimizing economic dispatch in hydropower systems, facilitating improved performance and sustainability in the energy sector
