چکیده مقاله:

Background: Pleomorphic liposarcoma is an uncommon and aggressive variant of soft tissue sarcomas in dogs, typically affecting middle aged to older animals and arising in sites such as limbs, trunk, or visceral organs. The occurrence of this tumor in the scapular subcutaneous region of a young Shih Tzu represents an unusual presentation. This case describes the clinicopathological features and diagnostic considerations of pleomorphic liposarcoma in this anatomical location. Methods: A ۳.۵-year-old neutered female Shih Tzu was presented with a firm subcutaneous mass over the right scapular region. An excisional biopsy of the lesion was obtained and referred to anatomical pathologist for histopathological evaluation. Grossly, the specimen consisted of a haired skin overlying a cream to orange, firm, glistening, and endophytic mass surrounded by adipose tissue. Representative sections were processed routinely and stained with hematoxylin and eosin for microscopic assessment. Results: Microscopically, the neoplasm comprised pleomorphic polygonal cells with variable cytoplasmic vacuolation, marked nuclear atypia, and bizarre mitotic figures (۷ per ۱۰ HPF). Lymphovascular invasion was not detected. One lateral surgical margin was close, while the others were free of tumor. The histopathological features were consistent with pleomorphic liposarcoma. As recommended, wide surgical re-excision was performed. Conclusion: This case highlights the diagnostic importance of comprehensive histopathological evaluation for subcutaneous masses in young dogs and expands the clinicopathologic spectrum of pleomorphic liposarcoma to include the scapular subcutaneous region. Although aggressive, early detection and complete excision improves clinical outcomes, and further case documentation is required to better define prognostic factors in canine pleomorphic liposarcoma.
