چکیده مقاله:

Background: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a malignant cutaneous neoplasm in dogs and occurs in sparsely haired, chronically sun exposed or irritated areas. About ۶% of all skin tumors in dogs are squamous cell carcinomas and the most common sites are the eyelids, the periorbital region, the scrotum and the nasal planum. Squamous cell carcinoma of the perineum is relatively uncommon and is less than ۱% of all the reported cases; but it should be considered in any chronic or unsuccessfully treated lesions. Although squamous cell carcinoma of the perineum is malignant, it rarely metastasizes and definite diagnosis is made by histology. Complete surgical excision is the recommended treatment. Methods: A ۴-year-old intact male Siberian husky was presented with a recurrent mass in the perineum which was not responsive to Triamcinolone NN. The owners reported that a mass under the ear had been removed by surgery one year old. Clinical signs were constipation, anorexia and tenesmus. Clinical examination, blood analysis, thoracic radiographs and abdominal ultrasound were carried out and the mass was completely excised and sent for histology. Results: Examination revealed a firm, irregular, erythematous lesion in the perineum. The blood picture revealed microcytic hypochromic anemia with neutrophilia and left shift which were suggestive of a chronic neoplastic process. Thoracic radiographs showed a bronchial pattern but no pulmonary metastases. Ultrasonography of the perineum revealed a heterogeneous mass. Conclusion: Although perineal SCC in dogs is uncommon, histopathological evaluation of chronic or non-healing perineal lesions and complete surgical excision are critical for early diagnosis and favorable prognosis.
