چکیده مقاله:
Background: Feline injection site sarcomas (FISS) are malignant tumors in cats which mostly include fibrosarcomas. These sarcomas are induced by injection, including vaccination. FISSs are hypothesized to be caused by adjuvants in vaccines and local immune response. Most common sites of FISSs are typically the interscapular region, the lateral thoracic or abdominal wall, the lumbar region, and the area of the semimembranosus and semitendinosus muscles. FISS can occur in subcutis and intramuscularly. These masses are defined by perivascular infiltration of lymphocytes and macrophages at the tumor periphery, a central area of necrosis, inflammation and local infiltration of tumor cells which distinguish them from fibrosarcomas in other places in aggressivity and metastatic rate. Methods: This case follows an about ۸-year-old female DSH cat who was presented with history of surgical mass removal on its left scapula. Thoracic radiographs were performed which revealed the overall opacity of lung field was normal but a radiograph from left scapula showed a large soft tissue/fat opacity mass lesion around the left scapula and left humerus sized ۷.۳ cm*۱۵.۵ cm. The overall opacity of the included skeletal structures was normal and no invasion of soft tissue to peripheral bony tissue was noted. CT-angiographic examination of thorax was recommended. CBC was conducted to assess overall health, measuring hematocrit and hemoglobin levels at a normal level. Results: Histopathological findings showed malignant spindle cell neoplasm composed of leiomyosarcoma, fibrosarcoma and myxosarcoma with marked mitotic activity (۳۴/۱۰ HPF) and giant cell formation and was diagnosed as high-grade injection site sarcoma. Conclusion: Surgical resection of masses on left scapula and forelimb was done.
