Parvovirus, a member of the Parvoviridae family of viruses, is among the most devastating canine viral pathogens and remains an important problem in small animal medicine many years after its discovery. The most significant challenges for effective disease control appear to be high mortality, environmental stability, and the unpredictable nature of maternal antibodies. New approaches to diagnosis and prevention include the ability to perform rapid, accurate serological assays, recombinant vaccines which not cross react with maternal antibody and vaccination protocols based upon puppy immune titre. In this review, the eight breakthrough discoveries from ۲۰۱۹ to ۲۰۲۵ are compiled, which present novel insights on the diagnosis, immunity and prevention of CPV. These observations imply that combining genetic vaccines with novel diagnostic measures could be a critical approach in controlling disease.
