چکیده مقاله:

Background: Sialocele is a rare condition in cats, often associated with oral trauma, and can manifest as ranula, with sublingual mucoceles being the most common form. A one-year-old Domestic Shorthair (DSH) cat was presented to clinic with symptoms of dysphagia, hypersalivation, and ptyalism. Severe pain and swelling of the sublingual glands, consistent with chronic inflammation, were revealed during physical examination. Methods: Histopathological analysis via fine-needle aspiration (FNA) demonstrated a cohesive cluster of vacuolated secretory cells and foamy macrophages, and a CT scan was performed to confirm the presence of this condition. Results: The cat underwent surgical intervention involving sialoadenectomy to remove the affected gland, accompanied by corticosteroid therapy to reduce the inflammation. Conclusion: Although sialocele is a rare condition, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of dysphagia in cats, especially when a mass exists in the sublingual or mandibular region. Early recognition and treatment of the condition lead to prevention of potential complications.
