چکیده مقاله:

Background: Benign ovarian teratoma is a rare germ cell neoplasm that may contain various tissues derived from the three embryonic germ layers. This tumor often remains asymptomatic until its excessive growth causes pressure on the abdominal viscera, making preoperative diagnosis challenging. Objectives: This report presents a rare case of ovarian mature teratoma with a dermoid structure in a young female Rottweiler dog and emphasizes its importance in the differential diagnosis of abdominal masses. Methods: A three-year-old, intact female Rottweiler weighting approximately ۳۰ kg was referred to the veterinary center with gastrointestinal clinical signs. After clinical examination, diagnostic imaging (radiography and abdominal ultrasonography), and hematological and biochemical analyses (CBC and serum biochemistry), the animal underwent general anesthesia, and a complete ovariohysterectomy (OHE) was performed. The excised ovarian mass was fixed in ۱۰% formalin and submitted for histopathological evaluation after hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining. Results: Initial supportive therapy for gastrointestinal symptoms was ineffective. A large mass was detected in the right abdominal region. Diagnostic imaging findings supported the likelihood of an ovarian tumor, and the patient underwent exploratory laparotomy followed by complete OHE. The excised mass, weighing approximately ۲.۳ kg, contained hair and sebaceous material. Histopathological examination confirmed a benign mature teratoma with dermoid features, including keratinized epithelium, hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and cartilaginous tissue. The animal recovered uneventfully, and no recurrence or clinical abnormalities were observed during a two-month follow-up. Conclusion: This case highlights that ovarian mature teratoma should be considered among the differential diagnoses for bitches presenting with chronic, nonspecific gastrointestinal signs. Complete mass surgical excision can lead to full recovery and improvement in the animal’s quality of life.
