Determination of Cu۲+ in industrial effluents by a potentiometric coated graphite electrode based on flupentixol as the ionophore

In this research, a simple potentiometric sensor for the determination of Cu۲+ was developed based on flupentixol (FP) as the ionophore. The best Nernstian response was observed from the composition of ۸% FP, ۲% ionic additive, ۳۰% PVC and ۶۰% Nitrobenzene as the plasticizer. The linearity domain was from ۱×۱۰-۳M to ۱×۱۰-۸M with the detection limit and slope of ۷.۰×۱۰-۹ M and ۳۰.۷ mV.Decade -۱, respectively. The life span and response time of the developed sensor was ۴ months and ۵ S respectively. The applicable pH range of the sensor was ۳.۰-۹.۰. The influence of organic solvents presence was also checked out and the results showed the designed sensor can keep its Nernstian behavior in mediums containing ۲۰% non-aqueous solvents. The selectivity of the developed sensor was investigated by matched potential method (MPM) over ۱۶ ionic species and no serious interference was observed. In the end, the applicability of the developed ion selective electrode for the determination of Cu۲+ in ۳ different industrial effluents was successfully scrutinized and the achieved results were compared with atomic absorption spectroscopy as the standard reference analytical technique.
