چکیده :
Today, in critical industries such as the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry, efficient project management plays a key role in success (Rolstadås et al., 2014). For this purpose, for many years, experienced professionals at the top of the work use their skills and expertise to estimate the amount of resources, estimate costs, prepare a timetable for these projects, implement, terminate, etc. However, with the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), a new option is present in competition with traditional methods (Gil et al., 2021), but the ability of artificial intelligence in managing downstream projects, such as resource allocation, cost estimation, risk management and accurate scheduling. Compared to human performance, it has not yet been comprehensively evaluated and analyzed.
On the other hand, an opinion poll (Scott Middleton, 2017) of project managers shows that 87% of them believe that with the emergence of artificial intelligence in the near future, there will be fundamental changes in their field of work, but about whether this change is at the level of transforming artificial intelligence into a It has not been discussed whether he will be a powerful assistant and colleague of the project managers, or he will be the main threat and main competitor of them and the reason for removing the managers. According to (Arup, 2018), artificial intelligence will emerge as a colleague of the project manager and will not threaten the job of project managers. Similar to what in automations, the advancement of processes requires a human as a supervisor.
The basic idea of this research is to investigate the possibility of mechanization of human jobs, especially project managers and experts in the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry, considering the increase of artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. This research examines and compares the effectiveness and efficiency of programs and estimates produced by artificial intelligence with those produced by human experts and analyzes the effects of the presence of artificial intelligence on job roles in this industry. This study will examine how artificial intelligence processes large amounts of data to make decisions in downstream projects and compare this process with how project managers use their knowledge and experience to make similar decisions. This research will include real-world case studies and empirical data to provide a comprehensive comparison. It will also address the challenges of integrating artificial intelligence into traditional project management, such as data quality issues, the need for compatibility with existing systems, and the need for human supervision. By examining the accuracy and correctness of human and machine decisions, the capabilities and limitations of artificial intelligence in this field are evaluated in order to determine its position and capabilities in playing the role of project managers in the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry.
