چکیده مقاله:

This study investigates the behavioral economic factors and motivational determinants influencing the participation of individuals with Parkinson's disease in therapeutic exercise programs. Despite the well-documented benefits of physical activity for managing motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease, adherence to exercise regimens remains low. This research aims to bridge that gap by examining the decision-making processes behind exercise behaviors through a behavioral economics lens.A convergent mixed-methods design was employed. Quantitative data were collected from ۱۰۰ individuals diagnosed with Parkinson's disease using standardized tools such as the Exercise Motivation Inventory-۲ and a barriers questionnaire. Qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with ۳۰ participants to explore deeper psychological and contextual factors. Statistical and thematic analyses were conducted to identify key motivational patterns. Quantitative findings indicated that intrinsic motivations such as enjoyment, health improvement, and social interaction- were significantly associated with higher exercise participation. Barriers like fatigue, fear of falling, and transportation difficulties were prevalent among inactive individuals. Qualitative data revealed the influence of behavioral economic principles including present bias, loss aversion, and the use of commitment devices in shaping adherence. Social support and perceived future losses (e.g., reduced mobility) emerged as strong motivators among active participants.Behavioral economic insights provide a valuable framework for understanding the complex motivations behind therapeutic exercise engagement in Parkinson's disease. Interventions that incorporate behavioral strategies such as nudges, pre-commitment mechanisms, and social reinforcement-could enhance participation and improve health outcomes. Tailored, accessible, and psychologically informed programs are essential for supporting sustained exercise behavior in this population.
