Strategic Foresight of Aquaculture Business Development with a Focus on Sturgeon Farming

Given the critical importance of non-oil exports and their foreign currency revenue, the export of Iranian sturgeon and caviar is of particular significance and holds a special position in international markets. Gilan Province possesses unique and excellent conditions for water supply, proximity to the Caspian Sea coasts, and houses breeding, cultivation, and stock restoration centers. This provides the province with a substantial capacity for increased sturgeon production. In this study, in-person interviews with ۱۶ persons were conducted with sturgeon farmers using a SWOT analysis methodology. The analysis indicated that the current situation falls within the defensive quadrant (WT strategy). By addressing internal weaknesses such as developing and enhancing infrastructure, making advancements in marketing, sales, and packaging, and promoting the inclusion of sturgeon products in the public diet and by mitigating external threats including achieving economic stability, producing high-quality feed, and supplying healthy fingerlings the mass cultivation of this fish in Gilan Province can be achieved. This strategy is promising for fulfilling domestic demand alongside successful export operations.
