Mechanical engineering, as one of the oldest and most extensive branches of engineering, has always played a key role in the advancement of industry and technology. With the emergence of new technologies such as the metaverse and the Internet of Things, the landscape of this field is changing fundamentally. By connecting devices and collecting accurate data from the performance of machines, the Internet of Things has enabled the monitoring, control, and optimization of mechanical processes, and has brought mechanical engineers into the field of data analysis and intelligent systems design. On the other hand, the metaverse, as a virtual and three-dimensional environment, provides unprecedented opportunities for the simulation, design, training, and testing of mechanical systems. These technologies will not only transform the tools of mechanical engineers, but will also transform the methods of education, design, and even production. The future of mechanical engineering will depend on combining traditional knowledge of this field with new skills in areas such as data analysis programming and the design of virtual environments. This article examines the potential impacts of the metaverse and the Internet of Things on the field of mechanical engineering and analyzes the opportunities and challenges facing this field in the era of new technologies.
