The effectiveness of adolescent sexual education on risk-taking, anxiety, and self-concept among high school girls in Tehran

During the period of development, childhood and adolescences a coherent and distinct sense of self is formed in relation to others, which plays a decisive role in individual life, psychosocial adjustment, academic success and physical health of individuals. In the area of sexual issues people have different attitudes and beliefs about a wide range of topics, such as normal or abnormal sexual activities or gender roles. Inconsistent attitudes and thoughts play a role in how data is analyzed in sexual situations and sexual experience. To justify the importance of the present study it is sufficient to state that the correct sexual education of children and adolescences and their guidance towards human ideals are among the most important tasks that require scientific measures and comprehensive studies. The present study is therapeutic applied in terms of its purpose, quasi- experimental in terms of its method, with a pretest- posttest design and a control group and quantitative in terms of its data base. In examining the effectiveness of sex education on risk- tasking, anxiety, and self-concept among girls in the second secondary school of Tehran, we concluded that there is a significant difference in risk-tasking, anxiety, and self- concept among girls in the second secondary school of Tehran between the education and control groups and as a result the effect of sex education is confirmed. Also the results regarding the relevant components showed that apart from the rational component in the self- concept variable the results in all components also show a significant difference between the individuals in the education and control groupsDuring the period of development, childhood and adolescences a coherent and distinct sense of self is formed in relation to others, which plays a decisive role in individual life, psychosocial adjustment, academic success and physical health of individuals.
