چکیده مقاله:

Acne vulgaris is a common dermatological condition characterized by comedones, papules, pustules, and nodules, often causing physical and psychological distress. Traditional treatments such as retinoids and antibiotics face challenges, including side effects and antibiotic resistance. Intense Pulsed Light therapy has emerged as a promising non-invasive alternative, targeting sebaceous glands and reducing inflammation through selective photothermolysis. This study evaluates the efficacy and safety of Intense Pulsed Light therapy, particularly using a ۴۲۰-nanometer wavelength, in treating acne vulgaris. A prospective interventional study was conducted with ۲۲ patients (۱۹ females, ۳ males) aged ۱۴–۲۹ years, diagnosed with acne vulgaris. The exclusion criteria included photosensitivity, recent antibiotic use, or isotretinoin treatment within six months. Participants underwent four weekly Intense Pulsed Light sessions (wavelength: ۴۲۰ nanometers, fluence: ۱۱ Joules/centimeter², and single-pulse mode). Efficacy was assessed using the Investigator's Global Assessment scale, lesion count, and patient satisfaction scores. Adverse effects and tolerability were monitored throughout the sessions. At baseline ۶۳.۶% of patients had an Investigator Global Assessment score of ۳ (moderate acne), which was reduced to Investigator’s Global Assessment score of ۱ (almost clear) in ۵۴.۵% of the patients after four sessions (p < ۰.۰۰۱). Common side effects included skin dryness (۶۳.۶%) and itching (۵۴.۵%), which decreased over time.  Patient satisfaction scores improved ۶۳.۶۲% (n=۱۴) of the cases had a moderate satisfaction rate at the first session, and ۶۳.۶۲% (n=۱۴) of the cases had a good satisfaction rate by the end of the fourth session.  Intense Pulsed Light therapy is an effective and safe treatment for acne vulgaris, offering significant improvement, manageable side effects, and high patient satisfaction.
