Cytotoxic effects of the aqueous plant extract of Teucrium persicum plant on the ovarian cancer cell line SKOV۳

Ovarian cancer is one of the common types of gynecological diseases in women. Treatment of ovarian cancer usually involves surgery to remove the tumor, chemotherapy, and sometimes targeted therapy or immunotherapy with various side effects. Therefore, due to the development of drug resistance in recent years, the use of natural, body-compatible chemical compounds alongside clinical treatments has gained attention. The aim of this study was to investigate the cytotoxic effects of the aqueous extract of T. persicum plant (concentrations of ۲۰, ۷۰, ۲۱۰, and ۶۳۰ _x۰۰۰۳_g/ml) on SKOV۳ ovarian cell lines for ۲۴, ۴۸, and ۷۲ hours. Then, the viability of the cells was evaluated by MTT assay. Finally, the results were analyzed using SPSS software version ۱۸ and the one-way ANOVA test (P_x۰۰۰۲_۶۰.۰۵). The results showed that the cell viability percentage significantly decreased at a dose of ۶۳۰ _x۰۰۰۳_g/ml and after ۷۲ hours. This demonstrates the potential of this plant with antioxidant phytochemicals such as polyphenols and flavonoids and essential oils to eliminate SKOV۳ ovarian cancer cells.
