The Prediction of Psychological Capital Based on Mental Health, and Pain Metaphorical Perception in Musculoskeletal Patients

Aims: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between mental health and pain metaphorical perception with psychological capital in musculoskeletal patients.Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive correlational study. The statistical population included all musculoskeletal patients in Tehran in the first quarter of ۲۰۲۵. ۲۵۰ were selected via the at-reach and candidate methods. The participants completed the questionnaires of Pain Metaphorical Perception (۲۰۲۳), Psychological Capital Questionnaire (۲۰۰۷), and the Iranian Version of ۱۲-Item General Health Questionnaire (۲۰۱۳).The data were analyzed by SPSS-۲۵.Findings: The results indicated that the correlation coefficient of psychological capital with pain metaphorical perception was significant (r=۰.۴۲) (P=۰.۰۱). The relationship between mental health and psychological capital was negative and meaningful (r=-۰.۵۲) (P=۰.۰۱). Moreover, ۸.۹% of the psychological capital variance is explained by pain metaphorical perception, and ۶.۳% is explained by mental health.Conclusion: It seems psychological factors are related to pain perception and its metaphorical explanation. Researchers are advised to pay attention to linguistic-cognitive factors in addition to psychological factors in relation to musculoskeletal patients in future studies.
