چکیده مقاله:

This study aims to explore the complex character of Stevens, the English butler from Kazuo Ishiguro's The Remains of the Day. Despite his outwardly English profession, Stevens' personality and behavior present a subtle cultural contrast, resembling the cultural landscape of Japan more closely than that of Stevens' native country. This discrepancy invites a deeper examination of the interaction between personal identity and cultural influences. By applying cultural anthropology and drawing on Ruth Benedict's cultural theories and Chie Nakane's insights into Japanese societal structures, this paper examines Stevens' distinctive personality traits, contributing to a broader understanding of how literature works.
