چکیده مقاله:

The transition to sustainable energy sources in the transportation sector is essential to mitigate climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Among the emerging alternatives, hydrogen fuel stands out as a viable solution, particularly for railway systems, due to its potential to minimize harmful emissions while offering high energy efficiency. This article examines the application of hydrogen in railway transport, focusing on its integration into internal combustion engines and fuel cell technologies. Experimental data on hydrogen-diesel mixtures are reviewed to evaluate their impact on engine performance and emissions. The study also highlights the environmental advantages of fuel cell systems in rail applications and discusses the operational challenges associated with hydrogen production, storage, and distribution. Key barriers to hydrogen adoption, including infrastructure development and cost considerations, are analyzed alongside its long-term prospects for achieving environmental and economic sustainability. By addressing these aspects, the study underscores the transformative potential of hydrogen in the railway sector and its critical role in supporting global efforts to decarbonize transportation.
