چکیده :
This systematic review examines the role of technological innovation and social participation in promoting environmental sustainability in smart cities, with a focus on green universities and citizen engagement. The study investigates how the integration of advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), data analytics, and intelligent urban infrastructure can improve urban resource management, energy efficiency, waste management, and transportation systems. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of active citizen participation in co-creating sustainable solutions, ensuring that technological interventions align with community needs and values. Green universities are identified as pivotal institutions that foster sustainability education and community involvement, contributing to broader environmental objectives. The study synthesizes case studies from North America, South America, Europe, and Asia to identify successful strategies and challenges, including issues of digital inclusion, data privacy, and regulatory gaps. The findings indicate that combining technological innovation with inclusive social engagement can enhance urban resilience, equity, and environmental performance. The review concludes with recommendations for future research and policy development aimed at integrating advanced technologies, fostering participatory governance, and promoting interdisciplinary education to achieve sustainable smart cities.
