چکیده مقاله:

A tuned mass damper (TMD) is a vibration control device that can be installed at the top of buildings to mitigate their seismic responses. Several studies have investigated the efficiency of tuned mass dampers while neglecting the effects of soil-structure interaction (SSI). Among the few studies that considered SSI, most simulated soil-structure interaction used equivalent springs and dashpots modeling. However, both neglecting SSI effects and oversimplifying soil modeling can lead to analytical results that differ significantly from a building's actual seismic behavior. Therefore, in this study, a continuum modeling approach, which is more accurate and valid compared to the simplified spring and dashpot approach, is used to model the soil. Then, a nine-story concrete building with its underlying soil is modeled within OpenSees. Several earthquake records are selected to simulate the structural response to identify the efficiency of the TMD controlled structure compared to the uncontrolled model. The results demonstrate the high efficiency of tuned mass dampers in mitigating the building's maximum inter-story drift and absolute acceleration. The reduction of these responses will lead to enhanced structural performance and improved occupant comfort during seismic events.
