چکیده مقاله:

This research investigates the effect of soil-structure interaction on the buckling behavior of an above-ground storage tank. A tank with a height-to-diameter ratio of ۰.۴ was selected. Three types of support conditions including a fixed-based and two soil islands with a depth of ۳۰ meters were considered. The ANSYS software used for numerical modeling. By considering absorbing boundaries an attempt made to simulate the semi-infinite soil. The numerical model was validated with past experimental results to ensure acceptable performance. Then, incremental dynamic analyses (IDA) conducted using ۱۱ far-field earthquake records with peak ground accelerations (PGA) ranging from ۰.۱g to ۰.۵g with increments of ۰.۱g to extract the buckling capacity curves and critical buckling loads. The results indicate that SSI increased critical buckling force needed for initiation of tank wall plastic deformation in IDA analysis. However, when the soil stiffness beneath the tank foundation decreases, buckling of the tank wall occurs at lower amount of base shear. Meanwhile, at stiff and medium soil conditions the critical base shear increase by ۲.۸% and ۲.۱%, compared to the fixed-based condition. In conclusion, the soil-structure interaction, with assumption of linear soil behavior, increase the critical buckling of the investigated storage tank.
