Productivity improvement by using Value Stream Mapping: Case study of ceiling construction

چکیده مقاله:
The construction industry is one of the most important and greatest sectors that boosts a country's GDP. One of the existing challenges in this industry is the presence of activities and processes that do not add any value (non-value-added activities); in contrast, they cause productivity loss and increase waste. Engineers are seeking ways that improve productivity continuously; One of the methods to approach this goal is using lean/Toyota construction. Lean construction has several tools; value stream mapping is one of the tools that contributes to execution in addition to planning and improves productivity and sustainable development. In this article, the current state map is generated by observing the sequence of the processes and the collected data that is gathered through time study and inquiring from human resources. In case of analyzing and giving solutions to reach the future state, the model of ceiling slab execution was developed in Arena software; Then, the future state was mapped. In conclusion, by improving processes by better procurement and changing the number of resources such as human resources and machines, productivity evolved about ۵۲ percent and lead time decreased by ۴۵ percent.
