چکیده مقاله:
Anticancer and antibacterial activities of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) have been approved by frequent studies in recent decades. However, several clinical limitations, including biocompatibility and stability in biological systems, have been found for clinical limitations of metal and metal oxide NPs, such as silver (Ag), copper oxide (CuO), and zinc oxide (ZnO) NPs. Cytotoxicity of these NPs is caused by oxidative stress and inflammation resulting from reactive oxygen species (ROS), aggregation in physiological conditions, and off-target effects. In this way, various biomaterials, especially polymers, have been evaluated to overcome these therapeutic barriers. Surface modification of metal/metal oxide NPs by synthetic, semi-synthetic, and natural polymers has demonstrated different advantages. Formulations based on biopolymers, acceptable biocompatibility and biodegradability have been obtained, but low stability and aggregation are yet complicated issues. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as an opportunistic pathogen, may contribute to lung cancer, specifically metastatic lung cancer. In this way, a survey of both anticancer activity against lung cancer and antibacterial effect on P. aeruginosa upon stress of some metal/metal oxide NPs has been discussed here.
