Evaluation of government initiatives in mitigating poverty in Nigerian economy (A case study of Ogun state)

Various government initiatives, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and international partnerships have been used to mitigate poverty. The government has implemented several programs to combat poverty, such as the national poverty eradication programme (NAPEP), which was started in ۲۰۰۱ with the goals of improving living circumstances, expanding economic possibilities, and offering social services to the impoverished. This study aims to evaluate government initiatives in mitigating poverty in Ogun, Nigeria. The study's participants were residents of Ogun, Nigeria's Ifo metropolis. A total of ۱۵۰ responses were obtained from the population number used to determine the sample size. The survey research design was selected for this study, and Taro Yamane's formula was used. The respondents' answers indicate that greater involvement of local communities in the design and implementation of poverty-alleviation programs is crucial. Moreover, ۱۶ of the respondents strongly disagreed that the government should prioritize the effective implementation of existing policies by ensuring adequate funding, training of personnel, and robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. This study suggests promoting economic diversification in rural areas through investments in small-scale industries, agriculture, and vocational training to improve living standards and create jobs.
