چکیده مقاله:

Language is a defining feature of human communication, and multilingualism enhances this by enabling interaction across diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. In English Language Teaching (ELT) classrooms, code-switching-shifting between languages-is commonly used to support understanding and communication. Personality traits, particularly introversion and extroversion, may influence how learners employ code-switching, especially in the development of speaking fluency. This qualitative case study explores the extent to which introverted and extroverted female TEFL students at Farhangian University use code-switching to improve their English-speaking fluency. Data were gathered through interviews and classroom observations of ۴۰ female participants aged ۱۸ to ۲۴, with an in-depth focus on one bilingual, Persian-speaking introverted student. Findings suggest that introverted learners tend to use code-switching for clarity, emotional comfort, and internal processing, while extroverted learners rely on it for maintaining conversation and social interaction. Both personality types benefit from code-switching in different ways, influencing their spoken fluency. The study highlights how code-switching serves not only as a linguistic aid but also reflects deeper psychological and social dimensions of language learning.
