چکیده مقاله:

Corrosion, a major electrochemical degradation process of metals, leads to equipment failure and high maintenance costs. To mitigate corrosion, various methods such as protective coatings are employed, among which chromate conversion coatings are widely used for their strong corrosion resistance and adhesion properties. However, in environments sensitive to bacterial contamination-like medical or food industries— there is a growing need for antibacterial coatings. This research explores the integration of graphene oxide (GO) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles into chromate coatings to enhance both antibacterial and anticorrosive properties. GO provides bacterial destruction through membrane disruption and oxidative stress, while ZnO releases antibacterial Zn۲+ ions and reactive oxygen species (ROS). The synergy of GO and ZnO improves mechanical strength and reduces moisture permeability. The modified chromate bath was applied to galvanized steel substrates, and antibacterial performance was evaluated through standard microbiological assays in a certified laboratory, confirming enhanced bacterial inhibition.
