چکیده مقاله:

Suspended ceiling systems are nonstructural components with wide application in residential buildings as well as critical infrastructures. These systems were reported as one of the main reasons that impede the functionality of buildings during past earthquakes. Although multiple projects were previously defined to obtain the behavior of these systems, insufficient understanding about their seismic response resulted in uncertainties in their corresponding guidelines. To help minimize uncertainties with this regard, this project offers the dynamic behavior of multiple ceiling systems under time-history ground motion records. The numerical simulation was adopted from a predefined modeling methodology in the OpenSees software. Twenty-five time-history ground motion records were utilized to capture the seismic response of ceiling specimens in this project. The numerical model is previously validated using experimental data of benchmark experiments and the fragility curves of FEMA P-۵۸. In order to provide more detailed data regarding the dynamic response of suspended ceiling systems, multiple ceiling specimens with various areas are modeled and the outcomes are presented throughout this paper. The results of this paper indicate that the ceiling perimeter is the most vulnerable locations of suspended ceilings, and the effect of ceiling dimension must not be neglected on their seismic behavior. Suspended ceiling models with equal aspect ratios are more vulnerable under dynamic excitations when they have larger areas.
