چکیده مقاله:

Background: The use of medical interventions (surgical or pharmacological) to remove a fetus from the uterus is called an intentional or induced abortion. This abortion can be legal or illegal, depending on the reasons. This qualitative research investigates the reasons for intentional abortion from the perspectives of married couples. Methods: This qualitative study involved interviews with ۳۲ couples. Data were analyzed using conventional content analysis and thematic analysis with MAXQDA ۱۰ software to identify key themes in the couple's perspectives. Results: The main themes that emerged from the interviews included: economics, marital relationships, health issues, and socio-cultural factors. Economic challenges, such as low wages and inflation, marital issues such as marital discord, health issues such as unwanted pregnancies, cultural issues related to Childbearing age and, gender preferences were important themes. Conclusion: Given the changing population control policies due to concerns about declining birth rates and increasing aging, awareness of the factors that lead to intentional abortion should be considered. Understanding couples' perspectives can inform reproductive health policymakers to prevent intentional abortion by providing the necessary services and supports in various areas.
