چکیده مقاله:
Aging is one of the sensitive stages of life, accompanied by physical, psychological, and social changes. Hospitalization can increase psychological stress in older adults and create conditions for depression and psychological tension. Personality traits, as individual factors, play an important role in how older adults respond to stressful situations. This study aimed to examine the role of personality traits in depression and psychological tension among hospitalized older adults. The findings indicated that neuroticism had a significant positive correlation with depression and psychological tension, while extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, and openness to experience were negatively correlated with these variables. Multiple regression analysis showed that neuroticism was the strongest predictor of depression and psychological tension, while extraversion and conscientiousness played a significant protective role. Personality traits play a decisive role in the mental health of hospitalized older adults. Identifying high-risk individuals, such as those with high neuroticism, and providing targeted psychological interventions can reduce the severity of depression and psychological tension and improve their quality of life and treatment outcomes.
