چکیده مقاله:

As the demand for sustainable solutions increases, the construction industry is being encouraged to move away from traditional methods. One promising opportunity is the metaverse, a rapidly growing digital space that could transform how projects are designed, constructed, and managed. This study explores how technologies like Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Extended Reality (XR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and blockchain can help the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) sector meet environmental goals. These tools, such as virtual models, digital twins, and improved real-time collaboration, can help reduce resource use, minimize waste, and cut carbon emissions. These tools also improve energy planning, encourage the use of recycled materials in construction, and make it easier to evaluate projects at every stage of their life cycle. Furthermore, the metaverse boosts collaboration, enables remote participation in projects, and increases access to learning and training opportunities. This study links these advantages to various United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing their potential to promote clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, and economic growth. It also acknowledges challenges, including the significant energy demands of digital technologies, data security issues, and the risk of excluding those without access to the required technology. In the end, the study sees the metaverse not just as a passing tech trend, but as a strong catalyst for driving significant and lasting transformation in the construction industry.
